The 5-Meter Bridge: Getting Power to Places It Doesn't Want to Go
We have all been there. You buy a new set of curtain lights or a neon sign, you unpack it and realize the “lead wire” (the bit between the plug and the first bulb) is about 50 cm long. Your wall socket is at the bottom of the wall, but you want the lights at the top. It’s physically impossible without using a massive and ugly white extension reel.
This 5m Transparent extension Cord is the fix. It is simply a long and invisible bridge. It gives you 5 meters of slack to run power from a hidden socket up to the cornice across a ceiling, or down a staircase without ruining the look of your decor.
This is a 5-meter straight-run extension cable. It is made from transparent ABS, which means that the casing is a clear wire and not solid white or black.
It is fitted with standard EU connectors (Male to female 2-pin). This is the specific connection used for 99% of holiday lights, fairy strings, and LED decor items. It supports AC 110-220V, so it handles standard household power early, provided you are plugging in lighting products.
Why Choose this 5m Extension Cord?
-
The "Stealth" Factor: Standard extension cords are usually thick and white. If you run them up a wall, they stick out like a sore thumb. This wire is thin and clear. It takes on the color of the background, essentially disappearing against your paint or skirting boards.
-
The 5-Meter Reach: Most extensions are 1m or 3m. This 5m version is for the “impossible” spots. It is long enough to go from a floor plug all the way to a ceiling hook, or from the house to a nearby tree, with wire to spare.
-
Safety Through Slack: When cables are too short, we tend to pull them tight to make them reach. That puts strain on the plug and creates a “tripwire” across the room. Having 5m of length means you can tuck the wire away neatly without tension.
-
Universal Lighting Fit: It uses the standard 2-pin round plug found on almost all festive lighting. You don’t need an adapter; you just plug your lights into this cable, and plug this cable into the wall (or another extension).
Where Can You Use It?
Ceiling Drapes & Cornices
Perfect for getting power to curtain lights that hang from the curtain rail where the nearest plug is miles away behind the TV cabinet.
The Christmas Tree
If you want your tree in the middle of the room or in a specific bay window, you usually can’t reach the outlet. This bridges that gap invisibly across the floor.
Outdoor Patios (Under Cover)
Great for running power from an indoor plug out to a covered patio for a braai area or string lights, provided the connection stays dry.
Shop Windows & Displays
If you are dressing in a shop window, you need the cables to be hidden. The transparent wire makes sure that the customers look at the product and not the messy electrical work.
Stop Moving the Furniture!
Don’t rearrange your lounge just because a cable is too short. Get the 5m extension and put the lights where they actually look good.
FAQs
Does this Cable have an On/Off Switch?
No. This is the standard 5-meter version, which is a continuous run of cable. If you specifically need one with a switch, then you can check out our 3m switched version. This one is purely for maximum reach.
Can I Connect Two of Them to Get 10 Meters?
Yes, you can daisy-chain them. Since LED lights draw very little power, the voltage drop over 10 meters is usually negligible. However, we don’t recommend changing more than two or three together.
Will this Fit into a Normal 3-Pin Wall Socket?
No. This has a 2-pin EU plug (the thin round ones). To plug it into a standard South African 3-pin wall socket, you will need a standard 2-pin adapter (the white wafer adapter).
Is It Waterproof?
While the PVC coating protects the wire, the connection points (where the plugs meet) are not waterproof. If you use it outdoors, you must tape up the connections or keep them inside a weatherproof box.
Is the Wire Thick or Thin?
It is relatively thin compared to a heavy-duty garden extension. This is designed for aesthetics and low-power lights, making it easier to hide behind furniture or tack along a wall.
